 Along to Mombasa road about eight kilometers to the north of Tanga city to the village called  kiomoni. The cave have been developed in the Tanga limestone series caused by the movement of  the earths crust are penetrated by rain water counting carbon dioxide(co₂)

This acidic solution slowly dissolves the limestone creating underground caverns.Caves estimated to extend over area of 234 kilometers.

The process begun in prehistoric some still continuous today to form STALAGTITES and STALAGMITES.

When you are in Tanga you have a time to explore to adventure geomorphologic-features of the great scientific interest.  

                             GALANOS  HOT SULPHUR SPRING

                 Amboni caves &  Sulphur hot spring cycling take (4.5hs)

Galanos sulphur hot spring it is about twelve km on the way to Mombasa from Tanga city. The spring still exist bubbling from the ground and flowing the ground and flowing to form a stream along to the Ziggi River.

The spring obviously rich in minerals. Evidence of this can be seen in the blue and yellow colour deposited in the canal which sulphur water flowing through from the main sources.

The hot spring located in the coconut plantation and you can enjoy drinking coconut juice and testing the different species of fruits.

                          TONGONI RUINS TOUR

                     

Tongoni ruins is located about 20 kms from Tanga city it is famous for the 15^th century ruins of a mosgue and forty tombs that are found in Eastern Africa such as kilwa and Mafia.

On tradition aims that TONGONI was established by the shiraz (people of Persian origin) who established many Islamic settlements in Eastern Africa such as kilwa and mafia.

Tongoni also offers a good insight into a typical Swahili Islamic coastal community. It is still a traditional villige, with many houses made of mud and thatched roof.

The lifestyly is basic ,typically rular and very much from an era of by gone days. The main activities are fishing and subsistence agriculture.

On the environment conservation front good cooperation for the people of Tongoni to the Tanga coastal conservation programme has resulted in Tongoni being one of the successfully Mangroves conservation area in Tanga in the last few years.
